Samayapuram Mariamman Temple

Samayapuram Mariamman Temple From Tiruchirappalli

The Chithirai Car Festival, held on the first Tuesday of April or May, is followed by the Poo Choridal on Masi’s last Sunday, the Vaikasi Panchaprakaram festival from May to June, and the 11-day Thaipoosam festival in January or February, attracting large crowds and visitors seeking peace every Tuesday and Friday.

During Masi’s last Sunday, Goddess Mariamman begins a 28-day hunger fast for the well-being of the world, during which devotees offer only liquids like tender coconut and orange juice while enjoying flower showers; many come to seek cures for ailments like measles and smallpox, lighting special Maavilakku lamps and returning to express gratitude through service at the temple.

At the temple, devotees engage in tonsuring, Archanas, and Abisheks, especially during the electrifying Thaipoosam festival, where they pull golden chariots, carry fire pots, and light lamps for 15 days, all while embodying a strong spirit of giving through donations and feeding the needy.

Temple is opened from 5 a.m.–11 a.m. and 4 p.m.–8 p.m
