Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary
Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary From Idukki
- History
Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the Idukki district of Kerala, spans 90 km in the Annamalai Hills and is home to a rich diversity of flora and fauna. This sanctuary supports various species, including mammals, reptiles, and numerous migratory birds, while showcasing significant ecological and cultural features. It is bordered by Eravikulam National Park to the south and Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary to the west. The combination of forests, scrublands, grasslands, and limited rainfall creates an ideal environment for trekking and eco-tourism, drawing nature enthusiasts to its sandalwood forests.
Visitors to Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary can enjoy unique experiences, such as thrilling Elephant Safaris that allow them to explore the stunning landscapes of the reserve. The sanctuary covers an area of around 344 square kilometers and was designated as part of the Project Elephant Reserve in 1991-92.
