Navaratri, meaning “nine nights” in Sanskrit, is one of the most celebrated Hindu festivals, observed with great enthusiasm across India and globally. Spanning nine nights, typically in September or October, the festival is dedicated to Goddess Durga, with each day representing one of her nine different forms. The festival culminates on the tenth day, Vijayadashami or Dussehra, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.
Rooted in Hindu mythology, Navaratri honors Goddess Durga’s victory over the demon Mahishasura, restoring peace and balance. Each day focuses on a different aspect of the Goddess, embodying power, wisdom, and protection. The festival also coincides with the harvest season, marking a time of renewal and a fresh beginning for many Navaratri is celebrated with diverse customs across India.
