Ugadi Festival
- Over View
Ugadi, which means “beginning of the age” in Sanskrit, is a widely celebrated festival that marks the start of the new year in Karnataka and many South Indian states. Usually falling in March, Ugadi is one of Karnataka’s most beloved festivals, embodying both spiritual and cultural significance. On this day, people participate in elaborate rituals and poojas held in temples and homes, followed by a festive meal to welcome the year with blessings for prosperity.
Ugadi is also a time for family gatherings, making it a heartwarming occasion where friends and relatives come together to celebrate. One of the festival’s highlights is the traditional Ugadi Pachadi—a unique dish made with ingredients symbolizing the different emotions of life, such as sweetness, bitterness, and spice. This dish, shared among family and friends, adds to the charm of this special day, making Ugadi a cherished and joyful celebration in Karnataka.
