Chaubara Tower
Chaubara Tower Karnataka
- Temple History
The imposing Chaubara Tower stands proudly at the crossroads of two busy thoroughfares in Belgaum, making it a prominent landmark. As an Islamic monument with intricate architectural details, it attracts many visitors throughout the year. Positioned in the heart of the city, the tower is often surrounded by vibrant crowds and lively activity, adding to its charm and significance as a cultural and historical icon.
- Architecture
Standing at an impressive 71 feet, the towering Chaubara reaches towards the sky, seemingly blending with the clouds above. It is believed to have once functioned as a watchtower for the historic town of Bidar. The tower’s architecture, with its distinct Islamic style, bears resemblance to the iconic minarets of the Samarra mosque. From the top, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the city and surrounding landscapes. The tower rests on a robust circular base that measures 180 feet in circumference and rises 16 feet 9 inches, providing a solid foundation for the towering structure. The base is decorated with several arched niches, offering a place for weary travelers to pause. At the tower’s summit, four large clocks, one on each side, keep time for the city. A steep, winding steel staircase leads to the terrace, where natural light filters through carefully placed openings, casting a warm glow on the tower’s interior.
