Chembra Peak, adorned with lush green tea estates, offers breathtaking panoramic views and an exhilarating trekking experience. Nestled at an elevation of about 2,100 meters, this peak is the highest in the Western Ghats and stands tall in Wayanad, making it visible from various points in the district. The trek features rolling meadows and dense shola forests, providing a visual treat filled with diverse flora and fauna.
he trek to Chembra Peak typically takes 3 to 4 hours. After about a kilometer, trekkers reach a watchtower, offering a stunning preview of the peak. Continuing for another 2 kilometers, you’ll encounter the enchanting Hridhayathadakam, a heart-shaped lake that never dries up, even in summer. This lake, with its romantic ambiance and picturesque surroundings, is one of the main attractions of the area. As you ascend, the trail becomes steeper, presenting challenges but rewarding you with a surreal 360-degree view from the summit. Due to the presence of wildlife, overnight camping is not permitted, and while the peak is accessible year-round, it’s advisable to avoid visits during the heavy monsoon season when the terrain can be slippery.

Situated at an elevation of 2,100 meters, Chembra Peak is the highest peak in the Western Ghats and the tallest in the Wayanad Hills. This peak holds historical significance, having played a vital role in the guerrilla warfare led by Pazhassi Raja. According to local legends, Chembra Lake is believed to have divine origins, with tales suggesting that Sita Devi bathed in its sacred waters. The pristine waters of the lake, along with the fresh air at the peak, are thought to possess medicinal properties, and many visitors have attested to their healing qualities, adding to the allure of this majestic destination.
