Munnar Hill Stations
Munnar Hill Stations From Idukki
- History
Munnar is one of the most cherished hill stations in Kerala, celebrated for its breathtaking scenic views, pristine natural beauty, and pleasant climate, making it an ideal honeymoon destination. Situated in the Western Ghats at an elevation of around 1,700 meters above sea level, Munnar became popular as a summer retreat for the British, who introduced extensive tea plantations in the area.
Today, Munnar is recognized as the largest tea-growing region in South India and serves as the commercial hub for some of the world’s highest tea estates, many operated by the Tata Group.
- Highlights
Munnar is renowned for being the native ground of the Neelakurinji, a striking purplish-blue flower that blooms only once every 12 years, creating a breathtaking spectacle when it does. This hill station is also one of the best places in Kerala to experience tea tourism, with the popular Kannan Devan brand of tea leaves cultivated in its expansive plantations.
- Best Time to Visit
Munnar’s pristine beauty can be appreciated year-round, with the tourism season spanning from October to May. The summer months, particularly from March to May, are considered the most favorable time to visit, as the weather is pleasantly warm and the chances of fog are minimal, making it ideal for enjoying the stunning viewpoints. During this period, temperatures range from 19 to 35 degrees Celsius, offering a comfortable climate for exploration.
