The Chithirai or Alagar Festival is an important and vibrant celebration held in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, typically occurring in April or May.This festival has deep historical and cultural significance, primarily commemorating the divine marriage of Lord Murugan (also known as Alagar) to Valli, a tribal princess.

It begins with a grand procession where the idol of Lord Alagar is taken from the Azhagar Kovil temple to the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai.
