Tiruttani Temple
Tiruttani Temple Form Tiruvallur
- The Saga Behind the Temple
After a fierce battle with the demon, Lord Muruga returned to this sacred site to calm his emotions. Another legend tells of Muruga taking on the guise of a village boy in an attempt to win the affection of Valli, a beautiful maiden. Initially, Valli ignored his advances, but with the clever assistance of his brother Ganesha, Muruga eventually captured her heart, and their love culminated in marriage at the Tiruttani hills.
- Speciality
A distinct feature of this temple is the presence of an elephant, instead of the traditional peacock, before the sanctum sanctorum. It is believed that this elephant was gifted by Lord Indra as dowry for his daughter Deivanai’s marriage to Lord Muruga. Another unusual aspect of the temple is that Lord Muruga is depicted without his divine weapon, the Vel, symbolizing his serene and peaceful state.
- Festivals
The Tiruttani Murugan Temple festival, celebrated during the Tamil month of Thai, attracts thousands of devotees to honor Lord Muruga and his union with Valli. The vibrant festivities include grand processions, colorful decorations, and traditional music, with devotees participating in rituals and carrying kavadis as symbols of devotion. This significant event creates a spiritually charged atmosphere, drawing the local community and visitors together to seek blessings and celebrate Muruga’s grace.
