Pazhamudhir Solai From Dindigul

Palamuthir Solai, the final army camp of Lord Muruga, is where he resides with his consorts, Valli and Deivanai. Nestled amidst the lush greenery of the Alagar hills, the temple is known for a nearby spring, believed to hold powerful spiritual properties. Located 19 km from Madurai, it is a revered pilgrimage site.

According to legend, this is the sacred spot where Lord Muruga, disguised as a young boy, tested the wisdom of the revered poetess Avvaiyar by asking if she preferred “sutta palam” or “sudatha palam” (ripe or unripe blackberry). To this day, a blackberry tree stands beside the temple, and it is worshipped by devotees as a reminder of this divine encounter.

Thaipusam, one of the most important festivals for Lord Muruga, is celebrated in January or February with grand processions and special poojas. Kandha Sashti, a six-day festival marking Lord Muruga’s victory over the demon Surapadman, involves fasting, prayers, and processions. Aadi Krithigai, held in the Tamil month of Aadi (July-August), is observed with prayers and poojas, while Vaikasi Visakam in May-June celebrates Muruga’s birth with rituals and processions. Panguni Uthiram, in March-April, commemorates the divine marriages of Muruga with his consorts, Valli and Deivanai, with festive ceremonies.
