In ancient times, troubled by the tormenting acts of demons, the sages sought help from Lord Shiva. Moved by their plea, Shiva entered deep meditation and from his forehead, six divine sparks emerged, giving birth to Lord Muruga (also known as Subramaniyaswamy). Muruga, endowed with immense power, waged war against a mighty demon, defeated him, and transformed him into a peacock, which became his sacred vehicle. At this very place, Muruga was honored by the celestial beings and was united in marriage to Deivanai, the daughter of Lord Indra.
