Parthasarathy Temple

Parthasarathy Temple From Chennai

The Parthasarathy Temple in Triplicane, Chennai, has a rich history of over 5,000 years and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, depicted as a charioteer guiding Arjuna during the Kurukshetra War. Revered as the 61st among the 108 Divya Desams, the temple features five incarnations of Lord Vishnu, smaller shrines, and vibrant festivals year-round, including two Brahmotsavams and Vaikunta Ekadasi. Easily accessible by flight or train, this sacred site showcases South India’s architectural heritage and profound culture.

In Tarukavanam, proud and arrogant Rishis believed their Yagas gave Lord Siva his divine power. To teach them a lesson, Siva appeared as a handsome beggar, mesmerizing the Rishis’ wives, while Vishnu disguised as a beautiful woman, attracting the Rishis. Realizing they were fooled, the Rishis attempted to destroy the gods using an elephant. Siva then revealed himself, killed the elephant, and shattered the Rishis’ pride. This legend explains the temple’s significance.

The temple celebrates several festivals, with Chithirai (April-May), Navratri (Sep-Oct), and Shivaratri being the most notable.

This temple is exclusively for Ashwini starrers, who believe that making special offerings to Piravi Marundeeswarar will erase their sins and grant them new births.
