shri Adi Narayana Perumal Temple
shri Adi Narayana Perumal Temple From Thiruvarur
- Temple's Peculiarity
Nestled in the serene Thiruvarur district, the Shri Adhi Narayana Perumal Temple stands out for its unique depiction of Lord Vishnu riding Garuda, his celestial mount. Unlike most temples where Vishnu is seen seated or standing, this temple showcases him in action, symbolizing his divine mission to save a devotee. The temple’s traditional architecture and intricate sculptures further add to its spiritual and aesthetic charm, making it a must-visit for devotees and art lovers alike.
- A Bit of Myth
Long ago, Sage Bruhu was meditating peacefully under the Vanni trees when a Chola king’s loud hunt disrupted the calm. Furious, the sage cursed the king to bear a lion’s face as punishment. Realizing his mistake, the king sought redemption and was advised to bathe in the sacred Vettraru River (Vruddha Cauvery) and offer prayers to Perumal at this temple. His human form was restored, and ever since, the temple holds special significance, particularly for those born under the Mrigashirsha nakshatra, who seek blessings here for divine protection and grace.
- Why Visit?
This temple is a refuge for those seeking relief from unfavorable planetary alignments, doshas, and blessings for children or early marriage. Known for its healing energy, it attracts devotees dealing with skin ailments, family discord, and enemy threats. Visiting on Pournami days or Mrigashirsha star days is believed to amplify its powerful blessings.
