keezhperumpallam kethu Temple
keezhperumpallam kethu Temple From Mayiladuthurai
- Temple History
The ancient Keezhaperumpallam temple, built by the Cholas and expanded by various rulers, is dedicated to Lord Shiva as Naganatha Swamy, with Lord Kethu as a primary deity. According to legend, during the churning of the Ocean of Milk, Lord Shiva consumed poison to save the world, blessing the serpent Vasuki, who sought forgiveness. This temple is now a revered pilgrimage site for devotees across the country.
- Greatness of Tample
This temple is part of the Navagraha Temples, where Lord Kethu, symbolizing knowledge and wisdom, is worshipped. Devotees visit year-round, offering multicolored clothes and grains, seeking protection from planetary transitions and praying for blessings of wisdom and guidance from Lord Kethu.
- Temple Speciality
At this temple, Lord Kethu is depicted with a human body and a serpent’s head. It is believed that when Kethu transits into a devotee’s zodiac sign, they experience prosperity. Although Lord Shiva is the main deity here as Naganathaswamy, devotees first offer prayers to Lord Kethu before seeking blessings from Lord Shiva and His consort, Goddess Soundharyanayagi.
