Sri Agneeswarar Temple

Sri Agneeswarar Temple From Kanjanur

Nestled in Nalladai near Nagapattinam, the majestic Sri Agneeswarar Temple spans two acres, featuring three grand entrances with towering structures. Built in 1147, it houses Lord Shiva surrounded by water to cool the deity, a unique and powerful design. As one of the 27 Nakshatra temples, its rare west-facing Lord Shiva draws many visitors who believe in its special spiritual power.

Here’s a mystical tale from the Sri Agneeswarar Temple: Sage Mruganda Maharishi once performed a grand Yaga, tossing silk clothes into the ritual fire as offerings to Lord Nalladai. Onlookers were shocked, but the sage calmly asked them to look at the deity. To everyone’s amazement, the silk garments appeared on the Lord! The sage explained it was all about faith—stars like Agni and Bharani Rudrani send gifts directly to Him, which is why the temple is closely tied to the Bharani star.
